Hamilton College is a private, independent, liberal arts college located in Clinton, which is a village in Oneida County, in the US state of New York, with a small population of neatly 2000 inhabitants, according to the 2000 census.
The college was established in 1793 and first started as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy. It was chartered in 1812 as Hamilton College, and it is the third oldest college established in New York State. It offers its students the Bachelor of Arts degree, in more than 49 areas of study, including study-abroad programs, in China, France, and Spain, being well known for its `open` curriculum, for which there are no distributional requirements, students having nearly total freedom over their course selection.
Hamilton's athletic teams are known as the Continentals Hamiltonians and they compete at the NCAA Division III, in NESCAC and MAISA. Their distinctive colors are buff and blue.
